It's the classic East Africa safari dilemma: Kenya or Tanzania? Both countries offer world-class wildlife, iconic landscapes, and once-in-a-lifetime experiences. But they're different in ways that matter.
As a Nairobi-based safari company that operates in both countries, we're going to give you our honest, ground-level perspective to help you decide.

Both countries share the same ecosystem and the Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, buffalo). However:
Tanzania is generally 20–40% more expensive than Kenya for a comparable safari. Why?
💡A 7-day mid-range safari in Kenya typically costs $2,500–3,500 per person. The same quality in Tanzania: $3,500–5,000.

That said, if you have 10+ days and a larger budget, a combined Kenya–Tanzania safari gives you the best of both worlds.
