Syncerus caffer

See African buffalo up-close in breathtaking Kenyan terrains with Samton Safaris. Expert guidance and unforgettable experiences guaranteed.

About the African Buffalo

The African buffalo, also known as the Cape buffalo, is considered one of the most dangerous animals in Africa. Despite their bovine appearance, buffalo are notoriously unpredictable and have been known to ambush and attack hunters who pursue them.

Buffalo are highly social and gather in large herds that can number in the thousands, particularly in the Serengeti during the dry season. The Masai Mara, Ngorongoro Crater, and Tsavo are all excellent locations for observing these powerful animals.

Males develop a thick, fused shield of horn called a "boss" on top of their heads, which they use in dramatic clashing contests for dominance during mating season.

Fun Facts

1

2
