Mountain Gorilla

Mountain gorillas are one of the most endangered and magnificent primates on Earth. Found only in the volcanic mountains of central Africa, roughly half of the remaining population lives in Uganda's Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, with the rest in the Virunga Mountains spanning Rwanda and the DRC.

A gorilla trekking experience is often described as one of the most profound wildlife encounters possible. Sitting just metres from a silverback weighing over 200 kg, watching him gently interact with his family, is an unforgettable moment.

Conservation efforts have been remarkably successful — mountain gorillas are one of the few great ape species whose population is actually increasing, thanks to dedicated anti-poaching patrols and community engagement programmes.
