About the African Fish Eagle

The African fish eagle's distinctive, far-carrying call is one of the most evocative sounds of the African wilderness and is often used in film soundtracks to represent the continent. This majestic raptor is commonly seen near lakes, rivers, and coastal waters throughout East Africa.

Fish eagles are skilled hunters, swooping down to snatch fish from the water's surface with their powerful talons. They are commonly seen at Lake Naivasha, Lake Victoria, and along the rivers of the Masai Mara.
