Join Samton Safaris on our mesmerizing Pink Flamingo Safari, where we'll guide you to East Africa's vast flamingo populations across Rift Valley Lakes.
The alkaline lakes of East Africa's Great Rift Valley are home to some of the largest flamingo gatherings on Earth. Lakes Nakuru, Bogoria, and Natron can host millions of lesser and greater flamingos, creating a breathtaking sea of pink that stretches as far as the eye can see.
Flamingos get their pink colouration from carotenoid pigments in the algae and crustaceans they eat. Without these pigments in their diet, they would be white. Lake Natron in Tanzania is the primary breeding ground for East Africa's lesser flamingos.
Their pink colour comes entirely from their diet
Flamingos can only eat with their heads upside down
They can drink boiling water from volcanic springs
A flock of flamingos is called a "flamboyance"
Lake Nakuru in Kenya can host over 1 million flamingos at once
Our expert guides know exactly where and when to find the Greater Flamingo. Let us craft your perfect wildlife safari.
