Chimpanzee

Pan troglodytes

Witness the intriguing world of chimpanzees. Unveil their intellect, habits & interactive communities with our special safaris across East Africa.

About the Chimpanzee

Chimpanzees are our closest living relatives, sharing approximately 98.7% of our DNA. These remarkably intelligent primates live in complex social communities of 15–150 individuals and are one of the few animals known to make and use tools.

Uganda's Kibale Forest is the premier destination for chimpanzee trekking in East Africa, home to around 1,500 chimps. Nyungwe Forest in Rwanda and Mahale Mountains in Tanzania also offer exceptional chimp tracking experiences.

Chimps display a wide range of emotions including joy, grief, and empathy. They have been observed using medicinal plants to treat ailments, teaching skills to their young, and even engaging in warfare between neighbouring communities.
